Power system is a branch of engineering which deals with generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electrical energy.
This is general definition of power system, in general power system explains completely from generation of electrical energy to consumer end who utilizes the electrical energy. This complete process will be explained in detail in electrical power system branch.
Objectives of power system:
The main objectives of the power system are
- Reliable supply of electrical energy to consumers
- Loss less transmission of electrical energy
- Maintain of voltages and frequency at particular value
- Cost of electrical energy should be economical with out environmental impact
Branches of Power system:
Power system has been divided into different stages from generation to consumers end, this stages are as follows.
- Generation
- Transmission
- Distribution
- Utilization
Generation:
This part of power system deals with generation of electrical energy. In this we can study in detail about generation of electrical energy from renewable and non renewable resources. It deals with complete generation station layout and economical policies to generate electrical energy at low cost.
In this stage we study about power plant and its construction, efficiency of plants and maintaining of reliability. We will learn different power plants in detail i.e about thermal power plant which uses coal to generate electrical energy, hydel power plant uses potential energy of water to generate electrical energy and Nuclear power plant uses uranium minerals to generate electrical energy.
And also we have other sources like wind, solar, gas etc.. to generate electrical energy. So complete generation part comes under this stage of power system.
Transmission:
This is the stage between generation of electrical energy and electrical energy reaching substation. This stage deals with transmission of electrical energy from generating station to substation from there we will distribute electrical energy to consumers.
In this stage we will learn about losses in transmission of electrical energy, materials used for cables, insulation of materials and tower construction etc. In this stage we will know in detail about losses occuring during transmission and economical ways to reduce losses.
Distribution:
This stage deals with distribution of electrical energy to consumers from substation. In this we will learn about economical ways to distribute electricity to consumers.
We can also learn about 3-phase 4 wire systems, 3-phase 3 wire systems and distribution with reliability with out any interruption during faults. we will learn about protection of equipments used in power system during faults in detail. We will also comes to know about different types of faults that occurs in power system.
In this stage we can learn reliable supply of power with protection of equipments from different faults that occurs in the system.
Utilization:
This is also important part of power system because power system stability depends on load also. The system depend upon type of load connected to it and amount of load at particular time.
In this stage we will learn about consumers equipments that are connected and are utilizing energy. In this we will know about all types of loads and system performance while you connected to the power system.
Conclusion:
This is the brief idea about power system. In future i will write some more posts regarding all the topics in power system in detail. If you think my post gave you good information, share it with your friends and don't forget to subscribe.
