What is Control System?

Control system is defined as a system which will control other systems to get desired output. The Control system topic deals with system which should be designed to control other systems to get desired results.

control system

When we come to definition of system it is a combination of components connected such that it will give desired output. Every system is designed to get desired output but due to some disturbances output gets deviated. To get the system output with out any deviation and disturbance we will find complete characteristics of the system and disturbances leading to undesired output will be analysed.

Once we get complete characteristics and disturbance of system then we will design a control system to protect from disturbance and get desired output with desired input.

There are two types of control systems. They are
  • Open loop control system
  • Closed loop control system

Open loop control system:

A system in which control action takes place without depending upon output then it is called as open loop control system.

Eg: Fans, lights, coolers etc..,

Closed loop control system:

A system in which control action takes place with output then it is called as closed loop control system.

Eg: Air conditioners, refrigerators etc..,

Now we have to know how closed loop control system controls with the help of output from the system, the answer is by taking feedback from the output terminals.

Feedback:

It is a property of closed loop system which brings output to input and compare with reference input so that appropriate control action will be performed to get zero error.

Next we have to know about the transfer function of the system because with the help of transfer function we can get complete details about the system.

Transfer function:

Transfer function is an mathematical model of the system. System behavior and its components used in construction can be determined by using the transfer system. By using transfer system we will get to know complete characteristics and behavior of the system for different inputs.

Mainly we have two types of systems in which we are designing control systems. they are
  • Linear time invariant systems
  • Non linear time variant systems

Linear time invariant systems:

The systems whose output are proportional to input are linear systems i.e which obeys superposition principle. Time invariant systems are systems whose parameters won't change with time. so we are dealing with this linear and time invariant systems in control systems.

Non-linear time variant systems:

The systems which doesn't obey superposition principle and parameters of the system changes with the time then it is called as non-linear time variant system. In the real world all are nonlinear time variant systems mostly so to control this type of systems we have to study Non linear control systems.

This are the basic point to be noted to start with the control systems. In the near future i will come with more topics on control systems so Follow up by email so that you will get my aticles to your inbox. Please don't forget to share to your friends...
